Dressing Like Twain Friday, August 22, 2003 • read strip Viewing 36 comments:

Of course, a Ray would be printed right over the top of a $100 bill with green ink made from processed marijuana. It would also have a button that when pressed would say "Yeah! We doin' THIS!" like those horrible greeting cards from my mom.

Agreed, except it'd be the six hundo bill.

I used to work at a bank. One time a customer cashed a rather large check and asked if I could give him bills in larger denomination than 100.

I believe there is in fact a $1000 bill which still counts as legal tender, but it is so rarely used that they don't bother to print it much.

Man I would have so much trouble spending that

I wonder what our clothing will look like to future generations in 100 years hence.

probably what togas looked like to cowboys.

People gonna be hella throwing on t-shirts and jeans for their frat parties in a few hundred years.

is SO correct.

Man, I wish I had a nice fitting three-piece suit. Those things are hell of expensive, and I don't have devil piano powers like Ray does.

They are expensive, and that is why I am fortunate that my dad's nice three-piece suit a) doesn't fit him anymore and b) fits me perfectly.

maybe theres a decent used one at your local goodwill, or other thrift store? you could probably get it for less than a 20spot...

I really love Twain's narration over the panels of Ray and Philippe doing their thing.

In the future, people will spend heck of Smuckleses on clothing.

In addition, "Smuckles" will be a slang term for "ducats" for the benefit of those who still say "hell of ducats."

Who doesn't?

If you are rich like Ray you have Buckets of Ducats

I think "heck of Benjamins" is one of my favourite phrases ever

Alt text: "Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence in society. - Mark Twain"

This was obviously long before the Internet, so I suppose it was accurate back then.

Times have changed, didn't the Governator run against 2 or 3 porn stars?

He won, though.

...due mostly to his fame from wearing very little clothing.

Except for "heck of Benjamins," my favorite part is the silhouette of Phillipe in panel 3, because it makes me think he's expectantly looking out the window waiting for Santa Claus' triumphant birth.

I want to give this two chubbies.

This arc is the "Time's Arrow" of Achewood. I'm sorry if you get that reference. Please pass some of that pity back to me.

Twain had three daughters , but only one son -- who died of diptheria at 19 months old.

Dude is dressin' Ray in his dead kid's duds .

Hell of a spiffed-up tot, though.

Or maybe he found the duds sealed in a bag in the toilet tank.

Hell of a outfit. I know the thong defines Ray, but daaamn, lookin' good.

a wintering i go

I must say, I'm actually shocked nobody's made and posted an image of Ray on some money. I may have to crack open Photoshop later this week and change this.

It's been seven months. Did you get busy that week?

God, did no-one notice Philippe silhouetted in the window in the third panel?

I am workink with such amateurs .

psst...hey, i_love_kate...check out dumase's comment above.

Ctrl-f must have failed me that month. Hail mary, full of grace, how does your garden grow?

Seriously man
