Pat and the KPMA Gripe of the Day 2005 Wednesday, October 26, 2005 • read strip Viewing 83 comments:

Pat secretly loves Bono.

I'm not super-sure that it's secret.

"super-sure" is the cherry on the top of this ever-so-slightly snarky comment.

In time we would come to realize the fullness of this truth

Pat is extremely concerned about what Bono will think.

the thought of upsetting Bono is the worst feeling Pat can have

Bono is going to be very disappointed that Pat completely misread Foucault

Pat is extremely concerned about what Bono will think.

Yes. And it looks like this thought puts The Fear in Pat's mind.

oh, so not like this then?

I think Pat has a huge package for Bono too IF YOU CATCH MY DRIFT

I don't! NoooOOOO!!

I gave you a chubby because at first i thought your name might also be Pat.
But now i see that you just didn't catch his drift.

UN-COOL.

Word up to the Foucault reference.

Natch. I think the best part is that the radio station has a special sound effect for Pat talking about Foucault.

I had a friend in undergrad who went through this phase. She needed a special Michel Foucault whistle. It would have warned the rest of us to stop listening.

I knew a kid who used to carry around a Foucault book constantly. Never saw the bookmark move.

I guess he thought it would get him wicked ass. If it did I never saw it.

You don't want the ass that Foucault will get you.

Even if it's wicked ass?

We talking like bouncy Dominican mamacitas or Witch of the West here?

When I visualize "wicked ass," it usually comes with a significant tramp stamp whose pattern uses a lot of thorns and letters with sharp fonts. Something like "GREEN WITH ENVY" with a briar patch of ink framing it. The sort of girl who will bite you while making out and break one of your lamps later, presumably intentionally.

I miss you, Melissa. Please call.

chubby this man

I chubbied him

I chubbied this man

For some reason I found this comment hilarious, and I'm not just saying that because we're Acheworld BFF or something.

That's great because it's not my joke. Someone else did it somewhere in the archives and I thought it was histerical.

As a matter of fact, I think it was in reponse to me.

Yep. https://m.assetbar.com/achewood/one_strip?b=M%5ea11f09b8576e606bcb5038dfdb92fb821&u=https%3A%2F%2Fachewood.com%2Fcomic.php%3Fdate%3D01072008

I am completely not going to bother sifting through my inbox and sent messages for the exact comment URL, sorry guys, I am just not that much of a trooper. Had too much wine last night to want to sit up in my chair for that long.

I demand that you make some self-deprecating comment regarding the fact that you traced that reference. You may begin now.

Drinking won't bring her back, man.

DC

hey! don't you knock?

You better believe I chubbied this man, Philippe

I chubby this man as his father!

he is a good man, and chubbable

(I chubbied both these men)

Your avatar tells us exactly who to chubby.

Pat's Wicked Ass. Heh

Rod's secret name.

Carrying around H.P.Lovecraft books has got quite a few pints bought for me. After that started, I stopped reading them anywhere OTHER than the pub.

My favorite is how it is the exact opposite of what Foucault would say, not just in one way, but in like four ways.

I bet Bono is all over that Monarchical Punishment shit. In secret, of course.

I love how the dude already knows its Pat after just one sentence.

Agreed. Also that Pat references Foucalt so often that the MC calls it the F-bomb and knows when it's coming.

Bono would NOT approve.

Are you kidding me?! Pat is my fuckin homie.

Setting up an entirely new account, with picture, just to reply? Well-played, sir.

Bono, according to his profile, is an old lady.

Achtung, baby.

But he's viewed 17 strips. Could it be... the real Bono?!

Nah, it just took him a few tries to find the right strip.

Hah, I forgot about this. I was so darned proud of myself even I gave 'bono' a chubby.

Bono, according to real life, is an old lady.

I hate Bono.

Pat's still a fan of Rod in the Morning... and the rest of the day.

ack ack ack ack.

Pre-canon gay jokes around Pat put the RAGE into me for reasons I cannot fully explain. I say this as an admission of fault, not a boast or a threat.

I hate it when people comment on strips before Pat's coming out and say to every single thing he does "ohhhh well we know now that this is because he is gay...".

Not everything ever is connected to a person's sexual orientation. OKAY.

This is true; some things are connected to penis size, or menstruation.

And in very rare cases, both!

Man, been there before.

But then again, we all have at least once in our life, right?

im thrilled that you didnt make a joke about getting your"red wings". im thrilled that i wont be cleaning vomit from my laptop.

Something said immediately after this strip?

A reference to the Urinals? Hooray!

It's weird to see Pat take a hardline stance against crime considering he busted out of the joint.

An important part of being a Pat is to be utterly and completely unaware of your own failings.

To be fair to Pat, Bono does seem sensible.

Seeming to be can sometimes be the exact opposite of actually being... as in Bono's case.

The alt text kicks ass

I think we all need one of those.

That and a Foucault slide whistle.

and a sproing.

Looks like someone read Discipline and Punish. I always wondered what Onstad majored in at Stanford.

On another note, Pat is torn between his brutal sense of vindictiveness and his desire for approval from politically correct yuppie cultural icons. Classic dilemma.

Foucault would not have recommended this.

Is it wrong that I think that Pat is raising a valid point in panel three?

Probably.

I think the reason criminals don't respond to their liberty being stripped by an institution is because their liberties were already stripped by being from Circumstances. Think about it.

not so. being from Circumstances does not prevent one from knowing that even being in Circumstances in america is like being a king in some other country.

True, however many many many people in america remain willfully ignorant and/or completely callous to those people in some other country.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE AGAINST TV SETS

You are not wrong to think that, but I think we can all agree that public executions for crimes like theft is a bit over-the-top.

[scruffy]Second.[/scruffy]

Well it never stopped all those people hundreds of years ago who still did crimes. (Some of them got kicked out of the country instead of executed. But it still didn't work.)
But jail doesn't seem to be stopping people either so I guess there is no solution here.

Nah. No matter what the punishment is, there will always be some people willing to take the risk in order to steal or hurt or kill or whatever. It's just something we have to live with.

The U2 that Pat...

...Bono?

il souffre de dépression grave... ceci est pourquoi pat est un DICK

P'tetre.

Morning is Rod's surname.

In and The are his middle names

is it pronounced 'fuck-all'?

"F-bomb = Foucault" is win.

It is funny 'cause Pat does not want Bono to think low of him.

Pat only got halfway through the first chapter of Discipline and Punish.
