I find that the cut-off photograph adds heavily to the pathos of this strip.

Hey, well put.

especially as the camera is called 'SureShot'

Beautifully sad.

also that he manages to smile through his sadness, to create a happy memento.

Yeah, happy, he just learned he'll be a widower in a few weeks, he's off the hook as a husband and dad, one he puts the seeds in a nursery.

This is the saddest thing. If I was a crying person, this arc would have done the trick.

crying now

Liebot, what is the saddest thing?
The Achewood strip from 15th October 2002.

The flower even seems to look up at him lovingly.

This strip and the ones with child Roast Beef are as funny as they are sad.

my heart. it hurts. :(

A comment left by pwb was marked lame too many times and excluded. (marked lame by NeoNaoNeo, thesyndicate88, ddddbbbb, miaou)

Just cause the camera is called sureshot, you think it's a beastie boys reference?

Dude that's a stretch. But so sweet if it's true.

Canon has a brand of digital cameras called "Sure Shot".

SNIF :(

I love his little tux

One day, this photo will be the only memory of Petunia Philippe has

Philippe will always remember that kind of pointy...blurry green...thing that was in the corner of the photo.

When he is an old, senile man of Five.

Philippe is a rad husband.

Lie Bot was right, tuxedos do photograph better.

I wonder if Lie Bot ignored it's programming, just this once, to allow Phillipe to look snazzy in his wedding picture.

Frame 5=Priceless Philippe

this is precious!

dang, reading this and listening to modern romance can really bring on the depression.

listening to "modern romance" and doing anything is a sure fire way to get very depressed.

A polaroid photo from a Canon digital camera? Damn...I mean, yeah it is more poignant that way. I only just noticed it. Sorry if that ruins it for any person.

I'm sure of the artist lord cartoonist had a Polaroid camera around for reference, he would have used it.

Yeah. I mean...yeah. I feel like a dick.

A Polaroid from a Canon Sureshot makes it better for me.

What a thing to notice at a time like this. For shame.

phil's gotta learn the life lessons the hard way.

My favorite little story arc.

Every strip that has Philipe in it always makes me googly-eyed.

You can't see it, but he is most likely crying.
And it is heartbreaking.

This, truly is the saddest thing.

This is so cute it hurts :(

Phillipe's smile and the way he holds his hands in the photo always makes me feel good. i've returned to it more than once.

Philippe, there's some pi on your back!
