Emeril and Beef abandon Téodor Tuesday, April 25, 2006 • read strip Viewing 50 comments:

I bet Philippe would make a good Trashspotter.

this was the first strip i ever read, oh the memories! i am listening to the cure right now by the way

I am also listening the Cure right now (the album Faith . It's been that sort of day.)

Holy crap: I had my stereo on shuffle and now '80' by the Tenmen is playing. Dude!

Cods and Seals: The noisy killers of the Deep.

I can only assume that the junkies were going to play darts with Theodor using hypodermics .. That is, um, disturbing.,.

It's because his insides are made from Aibos. He crashes sometimes, they just need to reset him.

Apparently he auto-resets whenever a crash occurs. Unfortunately, Beef does not come equipped with a Safe Mode.

It is interesting to compare Roast Beef's reaction to stepping in dog shit to Ray's reaction to the same thing . Evidently, Beef is comfortable with the abstract notion of the thing, but he can't deal with the harsh reality of it all.

Also Ray has shoes.

In retrospect, I kind of considered Ray's reaction to treading in the shit to be a reference to however many instances in their shared childhood when Ray had to resuscitate Beef in a similar fashion.

I feel that there's a difference between stepping in such a thing whilst traversing one's home streets and stepping in it whilst traversing a dangerous dumping grounds that is rightly feared by the community, especially considering Roast Beef is most likely already in a panic in this situation due to the potential danger to Philippe.

Except Emeril claims to have seen Beef in a similar situation many time while trashspotting. This is classic Beef.

Who are you? Are you trying to contribute? Either get your facts in line, or get the hell off my AssetBar.

*chews cigar manically, eye tic bugging like all hell*

You are correct, I had overlooked that. I am sorry.

Ah, kid. You're awwwwright.

Just like old times!

Phillipe's rationale for choosing the old refrigerator over the Coors cooler is great.

I got attacked by a mob the other day, and my gasping last words as the final kicks came into my ribs were, "This ... ... just ... ruuuude." For that, it was more than worth it.

Although I gave this a chubby, the notion that this might have really happened is simultaneously alarming and sad. I hope your attackers paused long enough to chuckle and say "yeah, wasn't that a good arc?" before they resumed beating.

Coming around the archives again I discover that I gave this comment a lame. I'm not sure what possessed me to do so, so now I apologize.

Note from Emeril's upright posture while the others are forced to run behind him that Emeril can apparently walk at an astounding rate.

also the look of intense determination on emeril's face

OH GOD NOT THE FRIDGE

#1 Cholo.

i am the number 1 cholo

Just like old times!

Dale Jr. is sponsored by Bud, not Coors. What the hell man.

Do you think Philippe knows this?

Do you think that, beansdooma?

Yknow what come to think of it I'm kind of disappointed in you for knowing this.

In his quiet moments Teodor should probably worry that the five-year-old otter he cares for has more sack than he.

Teodor is a complete douche in this arc.

not much help in a crisis.

Today's Blogs

Ray: I can't decide if I like helicopters or not.

Oh man that is nasty that is like pats abdominals.

Beef's balloon panel 3 should be a T-shirt. OH OH OH OH!

i visualize something like this:

except there would bigger, closer type, both horizontally and vertically.

The little otter has not learned how to swim yet, because he is five.

The last three panels remind me of those kid's shows they have now where the character needs to choose what to use and asks the audience "Should I use the MAP or the FLASHLIGHT to help me find the lost puppy in the DARK SCARY CAVE?!"...then waits for like 5 minutes while the kids are supposed to say the answer and says "GOOD the FLASHLIGHT." If I was a child watching the Phillipe Show, I would scream 'cooler!' 'COOLER!' but to no avail

I like this strip, and this arc in general, because it shows some of Teodor's ability to work up courage and determination (the things he is constantly beating himself up for not showing in his personal life) when he has to get Philippe home safely. In the end, Beef and Emeril cannot go any further, and Ray passes out after the missile incident- Teodor has to do it himself. The relationship between Teodor and Philippe- where the possibilty of doing something meaningful in life is given to Teodor by the opportunity to act as Philippe's guardian- is one of the most interesting in Achewood, and I liked seeing it put to the test in this arc.

Bit of an essay but I just thought it was interesting, was all.

And yet Teodor receives no good-karma type rewards for the help he is always giving Phillippe, just loneliness and humiliation.

I am the #1 cholo!

Ahahaha, hahaha oh my God this is so funny, seriously, only 4.3? Panel 3 had me laughing out loud, and by the time I reached panel 6 this had practically escalated to hysterics. Come on guys, surely I'm not the only one who finds hilarity in someone fainting from stepping in dog shit, regaining consciousness, finding that the dog shit still remains on their foot, and fainting again? Aahahahaha gold.

Dear heccibiggs: I get the feeling you wrote this while drunk.

Dear heccibiggs: I entirely agree with you.

P.S. I am not drunk.

i think we found where hecci hides...

in the archives...

Maybe it's just because I'm a female raised in the 80s, but I couldn't help but remember that episode of Punky Brewster where she gets trapped in the old fridge. NOOOOO.

#1 Cholo

Flash forward: Emeril proves he is not a coward that will desert a dying man.
