I was so scared the first time I saw this.
"Don't be scared Joe, Onstad won't kill Philippe. It's alright. He obviously wouldn't kill Philippe. Obviously. There's no way. No way.
Right?"

Me too...

meeee toooo.

I thought he might die at first, because it has been well-established that death in Achewood-universe is a lot like death in soap-opera-universe: Merely an opportunity to meet chicks.
But then I decided it would be too tragic and horrifying to do anyway.

Of course Onstad wouldn't kill Philippe.

Nice Pete, on the other hand, had me worried when I first read this arc.

There is a deeply buried sarcasam at work here, it's very difficult to explain WHY this is funny, yet... it is.

Maybe it's because Phillipe is still dressed as a bee.

DROP DROP DRIP

is SO atmospheric. This strip is scary.

Despite the nervous situation, I find the image of Philippe hopping out the van without the use of his arms strangely satisfying. The way he balances himself as his heeled shooes hit the ground.

shoooooes

shooes.

This strip is art ! The wide first panel, onomatopoeia, and rain just set the mood perfectly. You don't get this with Garfield, people.

Onomatopoeia is one of the best yet subtlest things about Achewood. The phone dialing is brilliant. My favorite is "Beep Bop Dweedle Doop"

Ahem.

Yes. I don't understand why it is so relatively low rated.

"all I can say is that my life is pretty plain"

The first panel is beautiful, if somewhat frightening as well.

Did anyone else notice that the road and walkway look like a cobra slinking along the ground?

Every time Philippe chooses a new outfit he gets exponentially cuter.

I think this was the first arc which I consistently gave ratings of 4 based solely on the art.

This strip makes me cold

aaahhhh it's so quiet from lack of speaking [panels 2-5], and all the environmental noises are too loud... the tension is REAL.

I love that last panel for reasons that are hard to describe.

I like the lines in his face when he lands, showing the tiny amount of pain the jump caused

For some reason, this story arc doesn't scare me so much, because I know that Philippe must not die. He is too retarded, too innocent, too stupid-cute to get rid of.
Panel four is just freaking awkward/cute/funny. I love his fat body, tiny boots, weird expression, and the little "oof" he says.
