Most people don't realise that "Pride" is infact a tangible thing. It is actually something you have deep inside of you that grows like hair, or toenails. The reason that it hurts is because a dog crapping on your face like that is the final event in a long line of pride-cutting actions, and it 'cuts the nail' too close-so to speak-that it hits a nerve cluster.

Either that, or the dog had explosive diahrea into the guys eyes which is only slightly less fatal than boiling gravy.
