I was wondering why this is rated 5 and the original's only 4.8, but then I realized that this is clearly the Blu-Ray Edition.

oh jesus so unintentional

I have issued a 5 for this. I expect you all to fall in line.

Rigid conformity?! Okay!

don't fuck this up voter number five

I got your back, voter number four.

Voter number six, here. All systems go.

The best.

I have, sadly, done this before

Not quite the same on a Mac. But even so.

It looks to be done on a mac by Ray. But it would appear to be pre-osx.

OSX killed it. It died with OSX.

It can't be windows. If you tried to drag a window in windows by the top right corner, you'd either close it or resize it.

Not true! You just need to be a bit more careful.

Correction: You can resize up there but not drag. At least I couldn't get it to drag in my field test.

Ye gods, we have the same avatar! Mr. Snrub, it is good to see you.

you've encountered a common problem amongst people attempting to scale mount everest via browser-based motercycle; namely that most internet images of mount everest leave little clearance room above the mountain for jumping. were there a miniature internet-based human life actually in your browser riding a motorcycle he would likely clip the top of the mountain and fall to his death. for shame.

and i spelled motorcycle wrong. sweet.

this = painfully true.

That's not your browser though, is it? Looks to be an image viewer.

I don't think it's sad at all! It must take a Herculean amount of self-control *not* to hop straight off to Google Image Search after seeing this strip. And to spend the next half hour or so going VRRRRRM VRRRRRRRM and making like Evel Kinevel even tho I'm only on a laptop and the tiny touchpad kept causing me to crash into the summit so then I got some little pictures of Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tensing and started leading expeditions up there instead. But yeah, everybody has done this!!! Right? Everybody!!! In the world!!!!!!!!!1

oh god i have wasted my life.

We're at voter number 12 and still keepin' it strong, people.

Come on guys get a hand in. Let's do this.

i wonder what the record is...

"The future" got to like fifty or sixty or something like that. It's definitely the record-holder, whatever the record is.

I hear that if you don't do this immediately after reading this strip for the first time you get your humanity revoked.

I can dig it!

I tried it! it was sweet!

Just so glad I'm a robot. I only did it with both the images in a browser..

Voter 21 here. Keeping that 5 train a rollin'
Must be some left over Xmas cheer. (booze)

35, and still 5's

number 40.
this strip has always amazed me actually.
I like to think that Ray does this type of activity on a regular basis.

yes.

Is like servink coffee with greasy film and raunchy hot dog on fine china.
It makes you more sick than you are ever beink.

Voting this strip less than 5 is like replacing the mountain with a shark.

It is. I'd say, though, that using the phrase "Jump the Shark" would be akin to replacing both mountain and motorcycle with sharks. Then perhaps cutting off your legs and feeding it to them.

Err, I'm not trying to be nasty, that phrase just grates my nerves. Probably about as much as fanboys making predictable comments grates yours, so never matter.

feeding them* to the sharks.
I need sleep.
Or to stop being anal retentive.

Jumping the Shark by Far-Less on the album Everyone is Out to Get Us is the theme song to my life.

:Composed of nonsense that makes sense:But get a brand new pair of pants:if you don't buy the right t-shirt:then you might miss the first(act)

shit a bicycle on the man that votes this >5.
NAKED CONGRESSMAN ART.

INCORRECT.
INCORRECT.

That was CLEARLY supposed to be a <, not a damn >.

The 'greater than' symbol bites the bigger number. BITES IT LIKE A SHARK. (this was the only way I could remember this as a child)

Now you got that special blinking thing on your life bar!

Flava Flav's tooth?

just kidding. changed it back to a five.

WOAH NOW!! Still going, guys.

If this strip can stay at 5, it will be the best Christmas miracle ever. I just know some dickhead will screw it up though...

Voter 50 checkin in with my five!

I gave it a 5 the first time. No reason not to do the same this time around.

60!

I have a policy on not giving reissues ratings above 3 Beef's.

So I'm abstaining from rating this because I'm not the sort of person to break a 5 streak.

I'm under the same thought. Good comic, but not going to rate this one and spoil the fun

Chubby for reasonable-ness.

There is not enough of it.

Voter 65, and it's fives all the way.

FIVE FIVE FIVE

LIKE A TASTE OF HEAVEN

70 here.

Man, what. Why.

:(

nothing can stay perfect forever.

Damn you, S.E. Hinton.

I vaguely made a robert frost reference and I didn't know it.

Hahah.. I'm actually feeling rather sheepish that I cited the middleman rather than the source.

I didn't have any lames left for the longest time, and then, just in time for christmas, just in time for me to give you one, I got some!

Man we had a thing going why you gotta be all like that.

You made me do a :(

I voted 1, because I wanted to feel like God on Christmas Day.

I've had my fill. Back you go, lil' 5

4.8, 4.9, 4.8, 4.9, 4.8.... 4.9!

I HAVE THE POWAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

I do not begrudge you all your fun, so I will not vote. However, I don't think this comic really deserves to be number one - at some point "ray gets sort of stoned" and "the future" should retake their rightful places.

Because maybe if a stoned cartoon cat can be accepted on the internet, it would be a good idea to legalize pot.

This would not be a good arguement for legalized pot.

It's because the strip really captures the feeling of being stoned well. Ray's observations and tangents are familiar, being similar to those you may have while stoned.

Not only that man but the strip is showing the uniqueness of Ray being stoned so it is plausible writing both because of its knowledge of what it be like gettin high and its mad knowledge of the character named Ray Smuckles no diggity no doubt.

It only captures the feeling of being sort of stoned.

Because it's just so right.

And because Onstad is so sparing about joking on pot, despite the fact that his audience is probably (my study has a sample size of one) less sparing about it's use.

So, let me ask you this:

What's the best Achewood comic to get somebody interested in Achewood? I've got somebody in front of me, I want them to get curious about Achewood without spooking them with something that requires a lot of in-strip knowledge: What strip do I wanna use?

-Darren MacLennan

Honestly? Start from the top. Others have said it before, but it bears repeating: there is just no way to see that first comic and NOT want to keep reading.

Maybe add in a disclaimer that it changes a lot from the beginning, maybe don't. But there's no one comic to show to a person. There will almost necessarily be a large amount of backstory and character development that bears explanation, and there's just no way to get that without trawling through the archives.

EBay Platinum Reserve may be a good place to start. It's highly rated, it's funny without prior knowledge of the strip, and it blends back into an arc (the transfer station) that shows some of the main characters acting very much in-character.

GOF

Cartilage Head got me in.

My way in was Badass Games. That's when I started reading, once it was over, I went straight to the top and read through.

Can I put a word in for the flowcharts? I'd seen the occasional strip before, but it took a flowchart or two to make it all "click" for me, for some reason. Ebay Platinum Reserve/Philippe and the Couch and the Badass Games = seconded, too. But Cartilage Head is for goths. ;)

(suddenly realises that the question is from four months ago. oh well.)

this is one of my favorites, i laughed so hard when i first read it . . .

If you look down, and your cock is less than six feet long, you ain't Darren MacLennan.

What are the odds?

-Darren MacLennan

I don't know about you people, but for me I give a 5 if the comic makes me feel something really special. A true emotional response (like an artistic reflex), be it humor or something else. This comic always gives me a strong emotional response so everytime I see it Ill give it a 5. Its on the best, it deserves I really high rating. Thats what I think. I mean this particular comic would get a 5 just from the nostalgia of the remembering the first time I read this: all laughing in history class, people staring at me, me having to leave the room... This strip is dank shit.

I just noticed some of the grammar/spelling/consistency of subject problems of my post, and I apologize, it is due to the substantial alcohol and marijuana consumption which I engaged in during the last 5 hours.

I am so disheartened when I see people getting hell for having an opinion that deviates from the norm.
Damn, man. I only know two other people outside of the internet that enjoy this comic and that's led me to believe that, while highly credited, it doesn't exactly appeal to the widest and most general demographic.
Unfortunately, time and time again I see that the same sort of "stick with us, say what we want/expect, and you will be respected" bullshit occurs.
It's not as though rick were being an asshole about it.

Bah, I'm thinking too much. And anyway, the fact that I even got involved enough to voice an opinion makes me no better.
God damn technology.

You guys didn't have to rate it...

Though I agree with quantumcasaba, I didn't vote because I don't think a reissue makes the comic any better, but I didn't want to ruin everyones fun. I rated the original one a five. It's like an awesome meal: you eat it, it was good. But that doesn't mean it's going to be amazing when you end up seeing it later.

Does that analogy make sense? I think it made sense.

It might not have made sense.

I get you. Heh, I'm just hoping I didn't start strife with the internet. No offense was intended.

Did...did you just compare this comic to shit? I'll agree it's not the best ever, but that's just rough bro.

Man I hope it was never about that. I mean personally I just saw a 5 rating and said "hmm, let's see how long we can keep this thing goin'."

It was mostly funny because it is silly to vote 5 on a reissued strip.

Getting flak for voicing your opinion is pretty lame.

I'm not going to lame you because you are one hundred percent allowed to feel this way, but frankly I think this strip is such a perfect encapsulation of Ray that it deserves the reverence it gets.

The Neverending Five was not about the quality of the comic. It was about looking at the number five. But you all had to screw it up. I hope you're happy.

olde

What I like best about this one is that what Ray's doing here is both clever and inane.

A comment left by sortelli was marked lame too many times and excluded. (marked lame by falseprophet, Bourbonsamurai, cailetshadow)

It could be worse.

I am not covetous of my 5s, therefore I will reissue my old score to this reissued comic.

a question of morality that bears no relevance to the strip at hand. (this is just to make up for a times worth of re-runs.)

Is there a definite right and wrong?

This one is still hilarious.

After all this time, I still love this strip.

googled for mount everest, set as background
googled for image of ray on skates
resized window aannd...

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN

This one always makes me smile, even if no one else understands.
