most epic Achewood strip award

Word. Wasn't this the only arc to crash the achewood servers?

Beef and Ray were so legit they burned down the servers too?
God I wish I knew about Achewood back then

word.

who would need NoDoz during the Great Outdoor Fight, may I ask? what, is it not exciting enough?
{panel 2, for anyone that doesn't know where I'm coming from}

Well, I assume that some of the fighters get a bit of sleep at night and during the later days I suspect that people become a bit more wary and there's less of the raw, full-on brawling of the earlier days.

Sleep?
I thought it was a johnny wrapper

The guy who bought the turkey and brandy had NoDoz on his receipt. Chances are that turkey had been sweating away in the back of the very truck that Ray and Beef storm to victory in.

on forums and such people were agonizing over the "meaning" of nodoz being listed on the receipt because they are internet people and refused to recognize it as a gag

I believe Onstad employed the phrase " crankcase fire ".

Oh dang I didn't know that. I think I didn't check the strip until that night.

Best Steve McQueen movie EVER.

That of course explains why none of the strips are in the most commented or the most viewed.

That Jeep is badass!!

it is, but only because everything about this arc is badass.

Oh fuck yeah,a legend is born!

Beef's from California and from Circumstances, so, sure, he knows how to handle small caliber pistols

But isn't Beef really scared about guns partly because his mum shot his dad and partly because he keeps getting shot?

You'd think so, but Beef would shoot you, and you'd be wrong.

I think that gun-skill just came to Beef on the spot. The Beef who not comprehend going against the GOF has swiftly faded away in awe of Ray's defiance, and the raw hardcore Beef that carried Ray to day 3 makes its return.

It does seem as though Roast Beef attacked the tower on his own initiative (rather than simply escape).

this one reminds me of summer camp...

I was wondering where the no-doz (from the receipt) were - brilliant

there is a quiet connectedness to all of achewood, and i feel like the no-doze thing is my favorite example thereof.

This is first time I noticed so many onomatopoeia sounds in an Achewood strip. Usually there are never any.

?? Onstad uses onomatopoeia ALL the time.

Not noticing it is a testament to how well he does it, I think. It's seamless. I often don't notice them... I just hear the onomatopoeia in my mind, and it isn't obtrusive.

It's like the ending of every awesome action movie ever. But with cats. Cats that can drive!

Check out my cameo in panel five.

This is one of the few comments on Achewood that I ALWAYS remember. When the previous strip loaded I got excited, thinking "man! This is the one with vreeeee's cameo!"

pouf

(closure)

There's an undergraduate thesis waiting to be written on the recurring motif of "pouf" in this arc

The Waiting Motorscooter is a powerful archetypal symbol.

Maybe it's a floating signifier, right, achilleselbow?

Ray is in a pork pie hat again.

The Great Outdoor Fight was my introduction to Achewood. From dried store-bought turkey to 'Hush Ray' to tearing off people's jaws to this barnstorming high-octane conclusion, I have never looked back.

Son of Rodney: The dude so raw he kicked the Fight's ass.

Song Cue: "Cities on Flame" -Blue Oyster Cult

Nah, Cities on Flame is a bit too slow to really do this strip justice. I'd go more with something like Pantera's Cowboys from Hell or, the ultimate rampage song, Search and Destroy by Iggy Pop and the Stooges.

"Set Fire to the Face on Fire" by Blood Brothers

After all the things that have happened in this entire arc, you couldn't have suspended your disbelief for this as well?

I guess you have never seen an action movie

We simply must retain believability in this comic about talking cats and alive stuffed animals

It was actually diesel fuel, which doesn't vaporize as readily as gasoline. The handgun was most likely loaded with tracer ammunition, which does burn hot enough to ignite diesel fuel. I claim that it is loaded with tracer ammunition because it's really fun to shoot off at night for a guy all hopped up on no-doze in the desert with nothing to do but watch Thomas the Tank Engine with some beat up dudes.

DAMN, but there are not enough chubbies in the world for that takedown. Thank you.

I thought Beef didn't like guns?

oh! wait! If that really was Ray's Dad's arm going for the keys of the jeep a few strips back... does this mean Ray killed his Dad. That's pretty heavy.

I've got vivarin and a pistol! Let's go!

a time-honored combination.

Some very impressive left-handed marksmanship by Beef there. This would be the most natural way to operate a firearm while sitting in the driver's seat, however.

Wasn't it shown in an earlier (later?) strip that Beef is in fact left-handed? In that case, shooting a gun left-handed would be perfectly natural.

I recommend reading to this strip while listening to the opening of "Break" by Fugazi.

The overall ranking is only 4.7 man? Fuck, who is fucking up the goddamn average? Bitches need to get their Prince Alberts twisted.

Ouch beyond reason. And yes, this strip deserves a perfect 5, as far as I'm concerned.

KOODGE!

KROOOSH! actually.

The pacing of this strip is uncanny

( "Battle Without Honor or Humanity (Fight Theme from Kill Bill)" plays in the background)

other candidates I have come up with include "Duel of the Fates" from the Phantom Menace soundtrack, and the timeless classics, "Theme from Rocky " and "Eye of the Tiger."

Guaranteed Ray-and-Roast-Beef-style blowjob.

Are they going to use the sidecar or blow it up as well? The possibilities are... limited!

no finer onomateopia was ever onomateopiad

this was a clever sentence, people. I am all about the Golden Rule.

Hella continuity on the No-Doz in the back of the Jeep and the No-Doz on the receipt.

Exactly. I only just noticed that this time around. I'd wondered what happened to it, I just never made the connection.

Panel 2 is fantastic, this is the best fucking comic ever!!!

So does the alt text actually refer to Carthage?

Carthaginians thank their various gods that they got off as easy as they did, when they see the unremitting, relentless destruction that Ray and Beef unleashed on the Acres.

so it seems we now know who purchased ray's christian brothers and chicken. awesome tie-back.

Genesis 19:24-25.

24Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;
25And he threw down those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

it muft sizzle.
