I haven't watched every episode of the American one, but I can say it's defintely had moments that match the British one in terms of embarrasment/unease. I'm guessing that's what you're referring to...?
Still, there's not much point in comparing the American to the British one. While the American one is fine and has only gotten better over time, the original trumps in every category; I have a hard time understanding people who don't accept this (which would be most of my friends).

I won't pretend I get the context of half the jokes. and unless I go live in england I probably never will. There's simply not as many funny jokes as there is in the American version. While it was more realistic (until the Christmas specials) and depressing, it wasn't as funny as the Anmerican version. I personally thought Extras was better Gervais.
