I always thought it was the mustache, but Culpepper's is white...

As soon as you can explain Teodor's similar mouth in a previous strip, sure.

Might be a reference to Klaus Nomi who has been referenced many a time.

Maybe it's Maybelline.

maybe its more than that

Maybe he's born with it.

Nah, it's Maybelline.

Man, there's serious kudos going your way in setting that one up.

Why can't it be true?

WHY FIND OUT

BOO TO THAT

Since Lie Bot's mouth is metal he had to paint it black so that when the mouth of the mask opened you didn't see metal inside, but darkness.

Man, I was gonna chubby this, but no. Your pedestrian, common-sense explanation has a certain elegance to it, but it ruins the mystery. Why's everything gotta have a reason? Let the freaky black mouth be a freaky black mouth, man.

You can still wonder at how Onstad noticed that.

I'm just gonna chubby it anyways, because I like answered questions.

how is asherdan showing up consistantly as the first comment?

liiiie boooooot!

Who cares? It is also a funny way out.

And to think that I only recently became familiar with the concept of deus ex machina.

Machina ex deus?

NO

I have no idea what I was thinking. The only thing this calls to mind is the song "Deus me faca funky," which is not at all apposite.

You were really not surprised by a cat, who dresses and acts like an old-fashioned man from the American south, turning out to be a pathologically-lying robot in disguise? Really?

I thought it was great. I love that line, "What a mendacious burlesque!"

I was a little disappointed that it turned out to be Lie Bot because now we don't know what Uncle Culpepper is actually like.

I think the idea is that Lie Bot did a perfect imitation of him

Kudos for a brilliant adaptation of classic Scooby-Doo plot resolution. The sound effect is even spot on.

I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for you meddling cats! And, uh, well, no, no dog.

Scrambles was pulling the strings all along...

Alt text: Lie Bot!

DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN!

brilliant

The best part of this strip is definitely Doc Andretti totally ignoring Lie Bot and Ray in the first panel and just walking on by with a real patient with real problems.

Uh, I think Ray is referring to Roast Beef on the gurney in question. Indeed, RB is a real patient with real problems...unlike Lie Bot. Great arc!

Someone ruined this one in the comments of a comic a little bit back or else i would probably like it more.

That's what I call a circumstance.

Hey man, some of us just happened to not have heard of it up until a certain point. (Would like to point out at this point that I have read the entire archive, I just didn't sign up straight away.)

Come on, man. "Newbie"-scorn is SO 2006.

Super-Tip: read them all first, THEN go back through and do the comments thing. Or else like every single strip will sound familiar from when someone references it.

Imagine now the guy who gets all the way up to June 2004, reads your comment, goes "ohhhh" and kind of quietly slaps his forehead

That guy

was

me

OOOOOOOHHHHHHH SSSSHHHIIIIITTTT !

That should not have to be a super-tip. Spoilers are like poison: if you give them to people, you should be killed.

I, too, am beginning to feel this might have been wise. But never mind! When you make a mistake, stick to it doggedly as things gradually fall to pieces around you.

(I'm also discovering that various assets I thought were hilarious are actually cold stolen from the strip. I remembering laughing out loud at an early 'Some of it got on the mayor!' because it seemed such a random and inspired thing to say, and then a hundred-odd strips later, my face fell and another fragment of my innocence died whimpering.)

Remembering? What? Fucking me I can't stopping using participles!

HA HA I have read this arc repeatedly since it originally aired and never once noticed those lips until now! :) Also I learned that Phillipe is going to be 5!!!

*gasp*!

why is lie bot wearing lipstick?

If there is a lie, Lie Bot will tell that lie.

I love how Uncle Culpepper calls it "a mendacious burlesque" and then begins unzipping Lie Bot.

I've still got three years to go in the archive. Please, please don't tell me this is why I haven't seen Lie Bot in the most recent strips.

FUCK YOU LIE BOT!

I should have known!

What a twist!

DUN DUN DUUUUUUN

i love how lie bot wears sunglasses even under a mask.

Am I to assume the whole deal, the mask, clothes, faking the outfit, the gun, etc. was for Lie Bot to get it on with Tina?

Doctors usually get pretty annoyed by the demand, "Cold fix ____ up!"

Maybe it's velcro to hold the mask in place? But then, how was liebot able to make the mask smaller than his actual head, and be round and not look Frankenstein's Monster in appearance?

I like to imagine that this strip might alternatively have ended with Uncle Culpepper's evil twin, Clancy, screaming and clutching at his bleeding head, from which Ray just tore his ears.
