Lie Bot was apparently wrong... Lyle can not only read cursive, he can write it!

Hot damn, that's a reference. Chubby for that.

Agreed.

Likewise echoed.

He's a calligrapher. Of course he would have immaculate cursive handwriting.

Hells yes

Was he wrong, or was he... try to follow me, here... lying?

this asset pleases me.

Duuude!!!
You're blowing my mind!!!!

chubby for the combination of text and avatar

username too.

The infrequently seen triple whammy. Hush, don't disturb it. Hush .

He wasn't wrong, he just lied.

What if Lyle can write cursive, but not read it?

I want to chubby this, but it would ruin the perfect 100.

I'm sure after Lie Bot's comment, Lyle spend much time practicing his cursive penmanship.

Afterwards making sure to write everything in cursive to show off his new ability.

To the point that he now carries a fountain pen at all times.

I don't think Lie Bot was wrong, but just lying .

guys. i think lie bot was lying. not wrong.

You guys know the alt text tells you to reference that strip, right?

Oh snap! I thought I was being clever.

I don't read alt texts, my mouse hand has a nervous tick. Or something.

I thought you were being clever too.
You have betrayed my trust!
I CAN NEVER BELIEVE YOU AGAIN!

I'm so late here that nobody will read this, but it rather appears that the alt-text is directing us to the strip wherein Lyle's calligraphy skills are introduced, rather than the oft-above-referenced strip featuring Lie Bot's vicious comment about Lyle's cursive literacy. The latter seems to be the antecedent to your pronoun "that," so assuming I am not mistaken about your intent, this post can be viewed as a "correction."

I read it!

Don't be sad!

how do you read an alt text from the commenting area?

Can't yet, it's apparently difficult to implement in this setup. I follow along on the normal site when I'm making my comments. Chris has said a couple places that it will be in as soon as they can make it work

For real, I only noticed the alt text in general like 3/7 of the way through and I still usually never think to check it out.

The alt text definitely changes the experience of the strip... I think it's a matter of personal preference, whether the alt-text improves or ruins it. I enjoy the alt-text.

I'm rereading the archives with the comments for the first time. I absolutely do not mean to be a troll when I say this, but I much prefer the comics without the comments. It's interesting to see what people had to say, and I appreciate the chance to discuss something we all love. It's just too repetitive to read alongside every comic:

1. "gush"
1a. "gush about rating this strip more than 5"
2. "display of Achewood knowledge"
2a. "oneupmanship or chubby/props of said display"
3. "I totally say/do the thing in this strip in my life now"
3a. "I totally would say/do the thing in this strip if I ever get the chance"

Nothing wrong with love for Achewood. If anything I am a little weirded (in the good way) that it's affected so many people in the same way it's affected me! But I recommend against reading Achewood and treating the comments as a companion/expansion/extra punchline in the same way as one might do with Achewood's alt text.

This comment is SO awesome - I would chubby it more than once if that were possible. It's a cut above his insightful but unfortunately redundant comments on double music and Airwolf - perfect delivery. I will have to start deconstructing things now in my own life - like movies and so forth!
;)

A

apparently you can't do a "plus."

I keep getting told I'm awarding too many chubbies.

I'm too friendly... =(

*Goes to stand by Philippe*

*chubbies for irony*

*glee*

jordstar cold turned this whole mutha out. That list (though it could be several items longer) is so right on. I think I've been wanting to leave a comment like this for a long time, but I doubt I would've ever put it all together at the right moment.

IT'S ALIVE

Ray puts "me" in what I presume would be mental air quotes. This is kind of amazing.

This happened to me in London once. It was a corner store, not a currywurst stand.

Lyle's got some seriously good penmanship

Well, he can do commerical-quality work when it comes to calligraphy.

Tschuss.
Tschau.

Guten Nacht, mein Leibe.

Heute die Welt, Morgens das Sonnensystem.

Translation: The only line I know of German.

What, they don't have free refills in Germany?

No! And they're stingy with the ice!

Kindly refer to the April 29, 2003 strip

This is kind of how I spend all my vacations.

the ol' ray " toss the paper over my head " maneuver

I love Lyle's Calligraphy. He has more complexity and depth than he appears to have.

It would appear Lyle may be the original creator (or inspiration for) the Shelly Script Allegro typeface.

where is the eszett in tschuß WHERE IS IT WHERE IS IT

This reminds me of the time I spent an entire day in Puerto Vallarta just sitting outside this one taqueria. I would always wander off on some initiative to see the sights. The longest I was gone from the taqueria was about 15 minutes.

I remember when I first moved to Texas and I asked my new Puerto Rican friend what's a "Tah-kway-ree-ah." She just started twitching at my pitiful attempt at Spanish (I got better.)

I hope to see more examples of Lyle's written eloquence.

Does it still count as a complimentary close?

I only realised after reading the next strip that Ray was too insecure to order a Currywurst again. Four hours!

At first glance, 'loser' looked to me like 'lover'.

I was quite crestfallen upon re-reading it.

I absolutely love that he signs it
"You're an idiot,
Lyle."

I have been told that you can get around in Berlin quite fine without knowing German, I have been told this by a friend from Berlin. Not that this strip isn't quite funny.

then again doing anything in any strange city is kinda hard when you're by yourself.
