Roast Beef was always a little behind the curve

it's also possible he wasn't willing to like things until they were a little old

It would be worse if the girl did kiss a guy. He'd have a panic attack imagining the inevitable problems that their relationship would suffer

I don't think he would have fallen in with the emo crowd anyway, his problem isn't that his parents were too busy working to give him everything he needs to spend all their time praising him for doing nothing.

I like how he seems to hunch more and more over the ten years, as if the weight of the world is slowly crushing him.

(1) Excellent use of the word "tasty"
(2) Roast Beef and I share a Birthday. Earth Day!

That's also my mother's birthday. Have fun with that.

ehhhhhhthatwasrudehhhhhhh

actually you are both wrong that is clearly a muscle shirt which is even more lol!

Looks more of a vest to me.

Yeah, people react strongly to excessively aggressive shutdowns. I know.

i'm glad at least two other people found "geysershitdick" going off on someone for calling a type of clothing by the wrong name pretty damn funny

oh how i love seeing roast beef in his formative years with hair such as a man would have when searching for himself.

and when he found himself... no hair. Imagine what you will.

Finding yourself brings about a certain peace of mind. I doubt Roast Beef has achieved this.

The DK Roast Beef looks exactly like my boyfriend did in high school.

I guess those photos were taken before the Kazenzakis curse kicked in. Or maybe it doesn't work on Polaroids?

I think the curse was mainly applying to his hair at the time. I mean, look at those hideous bangs! I would totally have been tight with Beef in high school. I love Venom and the Dead Kennedys, and I would've been that much more into them at the time. The last photo gives me a sort of "I got a computer job, but I still mess up my hair and listen to the Pixies and U2 in my cubicle" vibe.

this interpretation works alright for me

The camera that took them was not Hecho en Mexico.

That also had a lot to do with Mexican magical realism, so perhaps the "curse" was exagerated.

Dead Kennedys rule.

Heartily seconded.

One of my all-time favs. Who the hell doesn't like meals? Roast Beef. That's who.

I fucking hate meals.

I never seen this one before! Those photos rock!

Whoa, Beef and my dad have the same birthday! Earth Day Birthday!

OOOOOHHH SHIIIIIT

Also Jack Nicholson, V.I. Lenin, and Alexander Kerensky exactly 10 years before the the red leader

and me too

it is impossible to have a birthday that does not smell like tofu and blood

this is one of my favorites, all due to the last panel. something about his phrasing... damn!

Alt text: "The third hair thing is Enya hair."

The DEAD KENNEDYS, y'all! THE DEAD KENNEDYS!

"tasty little meals."

Man, you just know he was a thrash fan.

Roast Beef needs to borrow the tape Philippe got from his mother...."It's a triumph for your body when you keep yourself fed"

Roast Beef's emotions make him a monster.

Roast Beef's "tiny text" is the most iconic part of the strip to me.

It's getting closer to his modern stylings. Now he just needs to drop the punctuation

Yes, this is EPOCHAL, why are there no other comments marking this transition?

It is impossible to have a good meal.

Funny - in this strip, the cats live in human time, while in early strips, Ray was referred to as being 5 years old (and neutered)

He, Roast Beef, doesn't like life.

That is a tiny, tiny Hot Pot.

I love how surprised Teodor looks.

Where I live a hot pot is a electric vagina that you can place your junk in for gratification.

Does anybody else think that maybe the phases of young Beef might reflect the phases of a young Chris Onstad?

Hah! Teodor is all like " How can you not like meals?" in that last panel. I ask the same question.

Maybe he's a snack kind of guy? His childhood was chaotic.

I wonder what Beef's favorite Venom album is.

Beef's musical/hairstyle choices follow mine to a 't'

OR DO MINE FOLLOW HIS?!?!?

Roast Beef does NOT like life.

enya hair

I wonder... did Roast Beef wear a cat-sized wig back in small times, or did he do the cat version of shaving his dome when he finally came up? I ask because he does not have the black head covering required to produce even a modest mullet never mind a terrifying new wave mop or that now-stylish bed head he had back in '99.
