This is the definitive example of Achewood's "wildly unexpected last panel" style of humor.

I like that when we eventually meet Ray's mom, she is kind of like this.

Like misspelling "Sandwiches"?

That paper has three sides what the fuck

maybe it uses similar technology to showbizs 4 sided wine divider sign

Or Teador's baseball cards.

I bet there's a sign on it that says "Hecho en Mexico"

It looks like Pat's writing on a different sheet of paper, though. His is narrower -- there's not room for the "$8" underneath.

I think Pat was just carrying around that sign for whenever he needed to emphasize his lunch order.

Perfect. Chubby.

This in in fact the most obvious, beautiful observation on a strip I have ever seen.

I was reading back through the archives, saw this, and tried to give it a chubby. Sadly, I already did, and it won't let me give a second.

Ray's mom is extremely accepting of poor spelling as long as Ray tries his hardest.

The last line is often used in parochial schools when teaching young kids "invented spelling."

Ray and I both go into battle everyday fighting the war against not knowing how to spell certain everyday words.

If you had misspelt a few words there, ti wood have ben gold.

Ray accentuates the price just like he does his name in his signature.

=$8=

Alt text: I wasn't originally supposed to do tonight's strip.

Now "Sammiches" is part of my lexicon.

I recall it being a commonly-used word in the Scary-Go-Round comic strip.

It was used in Family Matters once. Urkel commented on Carl's sandwich, "That's a good-lookin' sammich you got there." And then he sneezed on it.

people have been saying the word sandwich wrong since it was invented.

I hear that John Montagu was particularly annoyed by this habit.

Alt interpretation of last panel is that Ray's mom thinks Ray is homeless.

I could go for a sammich right about now

Maybe a sanwich

the closest any living man will ever get to being a sultan in today's society is a pretty girl who, in about twenty minutes, will arrive home from school...

with a bag full of subs for me to consume.

i am so about to get my sammich on.

The problem here is that you are 23 and named molesticide.

[[high5]] for hilariousness!

Loving mothers are a significant contributor to the spread of various ignorance.

This strip goes a hell of a long way to explaining the ethos of Ray.

For eight dollars, those better be some rad sandwiches.

That crushing point in a child's development, when he realises that adults are not infallible...

philippe had it right from the beginning

Yeah, they'd probably sell more with "Sammiches" anyhow.

Sammiches!

The Good Lord knows to provide sandwiches

Its rad how your three stacked avatars all blink in unison!

The funny thing is that they are ALL right. Sandwiches, sandwitches, sammiches, samwiches, All are recognized spellings, although not by Firefox... the bastards.

According to whom/what?

I compressed the last panel into a very successful MSN avatar for a while, but I got awfully tired of explaining it to people and then they didn't have sex with me or anything .

How did you go about that? There are so many Achewood quotes and images that I wish I could make small enough to keep with me at all times.

Metaphorically speaking.

Maybe?

I just hit printscreen while that panel was in my screen, then opened MS paint and hit "paste" on a blank document, then cut out that panel with cut and pasted it into yet another new document, and then went about trimming it down to just the dialogue and kept resizing and shrinking and shifting it around until I had a nice, legible square.

It sounds like a hassle but if you try this it'll take you maybe six minutes at most once you get the hang of it.

I just realized I have really been taking PhotoShop for granted...

Yeah, no kidding.

Epicurus is clearly the dude from Circumstances.

I... I never got Photoshop. When I was a kid, it was all taking screen captures from Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight and opening them in MSpaint and adding humourous captions... oh good lord.

Oh God that game was great. Racoonking! Red5!

:P

Ray's mother is kind of a fool. Like most nice church ladies.

Philippe is an emotional rollercoaster in 3 panels. It really is amazing.

those are some rather pricy sammiches. Sanwiches
AH I'M CALLING MY MUM

You can't rightly say that without knowing the size composition or quantity of samdweeches that we are talking about.

Y'know, looking back, the art really has improved a lot. I guess a direct contrast helps.

I got kind of a Pogo vibe from this one. It was a nice vibe, and I enjoyed getting it.

Thanks to this strip, all spellings of "sandwiches" look wrong to me now.
