A lot of things make sense when Phillipe/Nice Pete explain them, i find.

And there is only one winner in a basketball game. EVER.

My gall bladder loves crime.
My liver is as yet undecided.

There are certain types of crime that the rectum hates as well. But this statement is still valid because they are very specific types of crime, and it only hates them while they are occurring, because it has no memory or foresight.

My liver has since concluded it hates drunken crime... because it resents having to work while the rest of me is playing.

Not to mention the "Hail Mary, full of grace," intro.

Frankly, I thought the prayer was revolutionary. Philippe must have been seized by the inspiration of the holy spirit. And of uncle Sam.

Oh, is that not how it goes? Please forgive my ignorance - I've only ever been in churches for cello lessons and a small handful of weddings.

Beef is a lot of things, but he is not a finagler.

What an awesome helmet Phillipe has! It is his stylistic G-String vis a vis Ray and his black G-String.

Judging by the old school NFL style, Cornelius probably provided the helmet from his stint on the 1920 Akron Professionals.

Yea this Nighlife Mingus appearance was basically the webcomic equivalent of a nip slip.

Taking a shot to the head is pretty bad for your entire body. Your balance and motor control being fried would make it hella safer to just sit in a wheelchair.

Teodor Bear: Why is it sad and bad (not rad)?

Theodor Geisel: I do not know/ Go ask your dad.

Unless Teodor got married to Cornelius while I wasn't looking, his last name isn't Bear. The Seussism was pretty cool though.

that is exactly what was brought to mind; good show, sir.

It has always been clear that the characters know they are in a comic strip. See the strip at the start of the Ray In Hell story arc, where Teodor is telling Ray about what will happen in the next story.

Ray adressed this once in Ray's Place I think as well.

I think that what's going on in that strip is that Onstad is portraying his characters as actors - it's a momentary fourth-wall breaking moment in which the characters know that they're in a story and know what's coming next, since they'll be acting in it. Overall, though, I think that 99.5% of the strips portray the characters as unaware that they're in a comic strip.

I think the idea is that everything is real and happening, but Chris Onstad is there to record it happening
or something like that

This is the theory that appeals most to me.

Friday Fun Facts are the bendiest part of the bee.

Is anyone else chest-tightenengly concerned that Nice Pete is going to feed Mingus eat his own silver-tounge?

Damn, I never thought of that... he has disgraced his God!

The "Simple Moments" sign is goddamn hilarious. So perfect.

I can even picture some terrible commercial for it during like Judge Judy or whatever the old folks are watching these days.

Neonfreon, you might want to stop busting on other people's ratings since you've rated just one strip, and given it a one. Real helpful.

This is a place for having fun, so maybe you want to take your hatin' somewhere else. I have lots of 5's too, but that's why I read achewood. I'm glad so many strips are great.

chill out, man. why are you so concerned about what snoozebar is doing? and why should he have to rate every strip in relation to all Achewood strips? I've personally been using Roast Beef's facial expressions as a guide

I don't know if Jelly Belly makes a brain one, but I do know that two strawberry Jelly Bellies chewed slightly and mashed together make one brain.

The best evidence for the characters knowing they are in a comic strip is the Strip where Phillipe angrily points out that Ray sold his eyes due to the fact that sales were down on the Achewood book.

no, it is the one where ray and rb are super-cute to get into mainstream newspaper comics, but in the last frame you can see a penis and a cripple, so it ruins their chances in a funny way.

for some reason i can't find the text search right now... and why is this page called "assetbar"? is this one of ray's new pubs for wealthy people?

A comment left by thommy_h was marked lame too many times and excluded. (marked lame by phthoggos, Judy, Wolfslice)

was it. damn. well, how about the one where they are all holding scripts?

where's the dang search button?

Yeah, I think that's the one with the belt. Ray goes to his trailer, etc. etc. It turns out it's all a sham!

They do break the fourth wall all the time though, I realise. Also, who cares about canon in Achewood.

oh my god dude I cannot believe you said canon

Not a guest strip. It was April Fools' Day. And you totally said "canon."

My favorite "breaking the 4th wall" strip is the one about handicapped access. "WHAT say WHAT?! Hold on, nigga! DAAAAAAAMN!"

I love the Friday Facts. Phillippe is infectiously adorable.

he is. i loved that one fact about "right now a sperm whale is slowing sucking a giant squid into his mouth in complete darkness" with the old-tyme engraving.

Philippe is honestly my favorite character. I look forward to the Friday Facts.

You would think that for 7 million bucks Ray would be able to get into the classiest asylum in town.

Get well soon Ray.

I love that Ray's discussion with Teodor consists of him rhyming. Eventually he will use this transcript to get the Sexual Homeboys to make a song out of it. He'll hit it big...again.

"Wear a helmet of any type!"
Ray's incident has clearly influenced Philippe for the better.

Floyd Mayweather said he's going to catch up on his Achewood in the training room before the big fight!!

Philippe's screwup of Hail Mary was the best part of the comic. Amber waves of grain...nice.

Philippe's helmet is absolutely adorable . :]

I'm kinda tempted to ask if anyone has thought about spreading a human brain on a newspaper. But then I would just look creepy.

Hang on- has Philippe been hanging out with Leander?

Off topic: Whoa people are crazy with the lames.

Onstad probably isn't going to kill this thing because of a few idiots who have no life. It's not that hard to adjust the number of lames to filter out shit like this.

Seriously, you hate this so much that instead of opting to simply not view it, you want it down?

You are a sad person. I'm sorry for you. :(

Don't talk to him like he's real.

Wtf is up with the lame crusade? If I were Onstad all this bullshit would basically make me want to retire the comic. I hope he has more resolve than I do.

For real. This is stupid. People. Listen to me. Most comments deserve neither a chubby nor a lame. Just let them be.

What can be done about douches on the internet?
I feel like an American Indian weeping in the face of such litter.
Also, I crave for another Philippe adventure. Preferably one involving Airwolf.. or.. Magnum PI's Ferrari.

It is too late. Nothing can be done to stop this, as it is the will of God that this happen.

Bring on the Silent Digressor. He will cry out for mercy when my full wrath is exposed.

oh no!

Probably not my favourite one of these, though I did enjoy the fact that the brain is the only organ that hates crime. Maybe the liver, too?

TO define the word Zeke for those who are not tough guys like roast beef;

Zeke:

1. Zero Electron Kinetic Energy (honest)

2.n. A biblical name, short for Ezekial.

3.n. A hayseed or other unsophisticated person.

4.n. An extremely cool person, especially on the dance floor.

guess which on Ray is...

man there are so many deleted comments in this thread

what is that about

Well, the problem is that everyone on the internet is a fucking asshat, and this whole lame/chubby system is pretty much a case study of that.

Actually it's those homps from TOUAMB, AKA (the officia unofficial asshole message board)

Asherdan is the ringleader from what I've read there, he's leading the whole Lame Parade

One thing's certain...The brain hates crime, but it's the BALLS that fight it.

I peed when I read "Fact 2".

Money would ALL-ENCOMPASSINGLY play the saxophone ! Also a little keytar which it would have picked up in the 80's, though it would be embarassed to admit that now.

Nightlife Mingus proved himself a coward who would desert a dying man.

I think people should lay off Nightlife . . Ray obviously put his head directly in th epath of the ball because he was stoned and trying to figure out if "snuggleguns" was a valid palindrome . . dude wasn't even wearing a batting helmet!

I'm sure kidneys hate crime too. They hate organ harvesting, at least.

i hope beef was able to finagle seven million. the dude has it comin'.

i just realised they stopped doing this

"Better not, though." is the funniest part of this strip to me, followed closely by hates crime and his little otter prayer.

love it.

Money plays saxophone.
Does this mean...Bill Clinton is money?

"Hail Mary, full of grace, hallowed be thy name. Thy will be done, the kingdom come, on amber waves of grain, Amen."

Best. Prayer. EVER.

I could totally see money playing the saxaphone. Heck no would there be no Washington playin' a thumb piano. He's got more class than that.
