:sigh: It was my first and last alt-text posting. Still, I am glad that they are no longer necessary.

I will say that Sidney Yamahata looks like a deranged Mr. Belvedere.

Although Mr. Belvedere is already pretty deranged.

According to our new arrival, at least.

Please, God, no. Even in his clothes he is too ugly.

I see what you did there. And I enjoy it.

I'm enjoying this week's run of strips perhaps more than I should. I'm secretly amused half to death by lolcats.com.

I'm horrified that it's been Achewood that's introduced me to such a thing.

I am beginning to fear a Beef reprisal here, possibly a dis-invitation to a certain civil union. At least, that's how it's going on in THIS cool cat's brain!

Why did Ray have Roane Shaughnessy in his autocomplete list? Does he frequently contact Roane with "craaazy shit they oughta put on the damn news"? If so, why is Roane still fairly cordial to Ray here?

Time will tell, unless it doesn't.

Well, Roane is obviously a human and he thinks Ray is one, so they can't know each other that well unless Roane has an Underground VIP pass.

I feel like the unknown reason Roane and Ray have corresponded previously is the sweet bonus joke atop the larger main joke of the strip. This subtle complexity is what Achewood is all about to me. Who says a comic strip should have one focus?

Ray has hell of news producers in his autocomplete list. A mogul gots to know how to work the press.

You think they don't put Rays ideas of heads been blown off in the news?

You'll see Sidney Yamahata again. You see him everytime you turn on the local access news station. It doesn't matter where you are.

Truer words were never asset-bar'd. Chby.

I can't help but think LOLAchewood might be the stake in this meme's black, pulsing, adorable heart.

Yeah, if Onstad hadn't written everything they'd copied in the first place.

Onstad also wrote the Volvo of Despair, so he's copying his old material, too. What makes these fun is the references to old story arcs where it is actually appropriate to say the cat was in the place doing the thing. (Plus, the involvement of real cartoon cats).

"I'm in your crate, judging your badasses."

Let's not start with this. Please.

Start what? Several people seem to have thought I was dissing the quality of Onstad's work, when really I was praising some of the stuff other folks have posted here. A clarification was in order.

"I'm in your box, waiting to die with all the other children."

I'm in ur sister's house, bonin' ur brother-in-law

"im in ur dumbwaiter, packin hot lunches"

Sorry.

im feeling more and more bad for mr beef.

Autocomplete sure can be a blessing or a curse. A blurse , if you will.

I believe I will.

Nice portmanteau!

Nice use of "portmanteau"!

I'd even say it's a Natalie Portmanteau

You might just call that a Natmanteau .

This thread ate my chubbies~!

Batmanteau?

Would that be referring to his cowl/cape ensemble?

or a portmantard.

Sidney doesn't get that someone who would pick up a reference to "Cat 5" would not need to be informed of the lolcats phenomenon.

I do not understand the Cat 5 thing. Not one bit.

I feel like I ought to explain.
An ethernet cable is basically a length of Cat 5 cable with two RJ45 connectors.
It is a terrible nerd joke.

Ohhhh.

Thank you.

Someone has anonymously registered channel7kacw.com in the short time since this cartoon was posted. Congratulations to the mystery web-person.

Is that one of the first human faces weve seen?

Excluding dead guys?

https://achewood.com/index.php?date=03222002

Do either of these meet your criteria or is "dead guy" a retroactive thing with you

I do not know if retroactive is the word I should be using but you GET IT

There was also that Steven character in the early strips, right? You know, the moons over my hammy guy.

As well as Mr. George Micheal's implied fornication with a certain robot.

That's a really good one!

Saddest thing: I've actually seen a spot about this on my local news :(

they had an entire 3 page article in our local paper.

when did ray even take this picture?

good question. i thought he was too depressed to take photos when they were in the volvo of despair.

Not only that, but Ray was nowhere near beef when he applied the shoe polish.

Magic realism works in mysterious ways.

I reckon he downloaded it from www.achewood.com
So pomo...

Perhaps it was taken by a traffic cam.

Here here. These could be guest strips.

Sorry, 'almost' be guest strips. Needs to be a gosh dang edit on this here forum.

So I suppose all those brilliant references to Wikipedia and eBay don't count, then?

There is a difference between referencing the 'internet' (Wikipedia, eBay) and referencing 'internet culture' (lolcats, other memes). That being said, I think these strips were both quite funny. I usually hate references for reference-sakes, but this fits in with the Achewood universe pretty squarely. Ya see, theys cats, and theys funny!

I agree. I think that lolachewood is as relevant as Ray thinking he's jerking around an e-mail con artist. lolcats mixed with Achewood seems like a natural fit just as Ray thinking he knows his internet.

Referencing memes, especially one with relation to 4chan is basically scraping the bottom of the barrel. Granted I do loves me some lolcats.

The issue is not referencing 'the real world' (if lolcats can even be included in that category) but rather the quality of the reference. Keith Moon's head in a jar? Weird, unexpected, and clever. An online comic strip about the latest internet fad? Obvious, lazy and unclever. Vive la difference.

also

CALLS CALLS CALLS, CALLS FROM THE PUBLIC!

I'd say that the average caller on sifl and olly was much more intelligent than the average poster on assetbar

Yes. Sifl and Olly is the best thing that no one knows ever happened to television.

The forum most often brings to mind either the Mexican Jumping Bean Bag guy or mr Crescent Fresh. Its just so crescent...

i found a 4 hour youtube collection of sifl and olly episodes the other day

loaded up the pipe, had some good times

ROCK!

I have the entire series on boot leg DVD. Its a truly wondrous thing.

I will pay you money for making me a copy of that.

I am completely serious.

lolcats is cool, though, plus it's at least tangentially related to achewood (because they be cats n' shit). It's not like they're doing a strip about All Your Base.

This does not seem to me a particularly meaningful distinction.

By this rationale Garfield is cool.

Thank you Mr Onstad, now my boyfriend is a bigger nerd then ever thanks to finding lolcats.

He obviously isn't a very big nerd if he only found out about lolcats from Achewood.

AND! If he has a girlfriend.

"Off to production!"

Roane Shaughnessy is a game lass.

She sends rich text emails. Plaintext is for newspaper journalists.

For some reason "Off to production!" really annoys me. It makes me hate Roane Shaughnessy despite the fact that she is not real.

I read yesterdays all wrong I thought Ray was all shamed for posting himself and getting caught!
I mean cats posting LOLcats is pretty counterproductive kinda like being Samuel L. Jackson!

that.
is.
awesome.

Enjoy my derivative 'humour' while it lasts. One more disapproving reader will consign it to oblivion...

It is awesome. At first, I thought it migh be a haiku:

I AM IN UR BASE
RAIN FALLS AND WHITE DOVES SCATTER
IM KILLING UR DOODS

That is so evocative. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Railgun.

Damnit. I ran out of chubbies.

Wait... that isn't what happened? RB was disappointed in him and now he's trying to cover it over.

When and why would the photo of Beef in this situation have been taken?

Ray's computer must by like George Burns's TV:

https://achewood.com/index.php?date=05252005

The Bill Gates Address was delayed due to a Roast Beef rampage at the studio.

I haz no feelin. Luvz strip.

KACW;
K-Achewood?

hahaha...roast beef on the news...yesss

Todays effort could've ended at panel 2 and given me the same laugh, if I'm frank.

good thing you aren't frank

What...what did you do with Frank?

All night long, Channel 7 receives complaints of its viewers spontaneously and uncontrollably vomiting upon looking into the eyes of the cat with the make-up on.

(From Wikipedia) A lolcat is an image macro featuring a photograph of a cat with a humorous and idiosyncratic caption. The name "lolcat" is a compound of lol and cat.[1][2] lolcats are also referred to as cat macros.[3] lolcats are created for photo sharing imageboards and other internet forums, especially on Saturdays ("Caturdays").[4] lolcats are similar to other animal-based image macros such as the O RLY? owl,[5] but the cuteness of cats "enhances"[6] the appeal and increasing prominence[7][8][9] of the Internet meme. lolcats are examples of anthropomorphism. Common graphical themes include cats holding invisible objects.[6]

I want to know what's so uncute about owls. Is it that they sometimes eat cats? Does that subtract from the mean cuteness?

O RLY?

Owl pellets are voted #1 factor in decreasing owl cuteness.

You know, people criticize Wikipedia for bad or unreliable information - but worse still is the bad -writing-. When a bunch of people get together to collaborate on writing a -single paragraph- it shows - especially when some of the major contributors are verbal slobs.

This is true in many cases but usually not on authoritative wiki pages about big serious things. The idea that a page about something as ephemeral and futile as lolcats should be meticulously written and researched seems pointless and awful to me, like a glorious epic poem about Rosie O Donnell.

Have you seen the Batman page? It is a featured article.

Batman is not ephemeral trash; he is one of about five of the most iconic fictional American Noir characters of the 20th century, like Philip Marlowe, and has proven his popularity and durability for 50 years. He is not an lolcat.

lolcatwoman

IM IN UR COMIC BUHK
BOOZTIN UR FEMENISM

The numbers!

Mr. Yamahata looks a little like Paul Begala.

Warning: Looking directly at this image may cause uncontrolable vomiting

I'm glad I'm not the only one who got that reaction from looking at sidney's mug

everything ray knows about Australia, he has learned from Outback Steakhouse commercials

so, it has been mentioned several times that Roast Beef is a gray cat.. could this be a reference to the song "all cats are gray" by the cure?

just throwing that out there

oh god i hope so

This is exactly how those god-damn fake newscasters talk, god I hate their puns. So glad I live in the UK were we take the news a little more seriously

It's Star Wars right here at home! Or at least, this cat is sitting in a car!

hahaha WTF DOES IT MEAN!?!?!

Today's Blogs

Ray: Goin' to Australia.
Pat: Soytopia a few steps closer to opening.
Philippe: A guy with a butt is next door!

One of the funniest Pat posts, IMO.

"Tantric SkyFucking with Melody Rain and Dan."

cat's cradle of Cat 5?

Is this the first human torso and face that Onstad has put in Achewood?
