i like mcsweeney's, but not as much as i like achewood... this strip makes me feel weird...

Same here, but nothing to feel weird about. Satire doesn't seek our loyalty.

Achewood makes me feel weird in that "I just saw nude breasts for the first time" kind of way. Strange and foreign, but ultimately really awesome.

oh man. i remember that.

that was awesome.

Indeed.

chubbied

Who can forget?

What's that actually like?
*sobs*
Oh God, I'm so lonely.

Well

It's kind of like
basketball

I am there

And the breasts are there

And I touch them

And I am the winner

Why is this not chubbied to hell?

I lolled

whoever lamed this is the saddest person who has ever lived, and they are aggressively dedicated to being sad.

And then the saddest little man lames the man who tries to highlight his sadness. Truly, he is the saddest little man.

Did you write "Satire doesn't seek our loyalty" yourself? If so - a teenage boy in another country has quoted you out loud to friends. Because it's brilliant and true.

I am also a fan of McSweeney's

I feel just like a Bertolucci film!

And that's what Onstad wants you to feel.

It transforms from a humourous mock into a urine-squirting indictment. So good.

I showed this to a friend who's a big Chris Ware head, and he got all hurt and mopey about it. It was weird.

The friend is upset by the opinions of the dead cartoon cats.

By all appearances, Chris Ware is not.

The fact that there is a duty free store in the departure terminal of this life makes me not fear death.

Except that it means that there is tax in heaven.

It's not casual; it's the first thing he does! She's obviously been on his mind.

She's so glad he's dead again.

They have duty-free on the way to heaven. Awesome. I need that. Gotta pick up my compulsory 6 bottles of Cable Bay.

i like how there's a duty free on the way to heaven.

Like everyone else, I love that there's a Duty Free in Heaven.

Is this the first time we learn Molly's surname? That's always vaguely bugged me, since it reminds me of Moll Flanders, who is pretty much the opposite of how anyone halfway logical sees Molly.

Molly's last name is Sanders. The McSweeney in the title refers to McSweeney's, the elitist lit mag they're talking about in the strip.

I was talking about the first panel, not the title.

Ohhhh...man, in re-reading your comment, I don't even know how I made that mistake. Sorry.

Beef hasn't used exclamation points in a while now.

Everyone uses exclamation points in heaven. It's gets annoying pretty fast.

Heaven and Archie Comics.

Man, don't you hate it when you're at a lame party and a friend of yours clicks with a stranger like this? It's like watching him riding a rollercoaster and eating an ice cream sundae while you're sitting in the penalty box at a hockey game while inner city fans spit at the back of your head.

your opinions are particularly amusing given the self-indulgent wind-baggy way you just stated them.

Well played, sir.

I was describing an exact experience, word for word.

You were exactly sitting in the box getting spat on while your friend was smoothing, riding a roller coaster and getting his Cone on? And you said this was a lame party?

Damn, I at least hope you were in for a high sticking double minor on your friend.

Oh wait you were talking to some other dude, sorry :(

ah but i am always particularly amused by your comments. and i am in fact talking to you. not rowboat.

She finds me particularly amusing! That's sweet, but I think you're a bit young for me.

I can't help but read that in the voice of Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer saying, "She thinks I'm cute! "

Ah, irony.

That was exactly the voice in which I wrote it. Good eye.

He feels just like a Peter Greenaway film!

I am buying a bottle of bourbon before reaching the pearly gates. ...or to share with Lucifer. ...I have no regrets.

What's interesting here is that with any other comic this would just be the author clumsily writing a pretentious review of something he dislikes into the dialogue of his characters. In Achewood, it's two characters discovering just how perfect they are for each other.

Why don't beef and molly talk like this anymore?

Because they already know all this mundane crap about each other. If they were still having introductory conversations about hipster lit and were due to get married soon, I'd be worried.

TO-DAY IS THE DAY!

His robe in heaven makes him look chubby.

Man Molly would be an awesome girlfriend.

This is love!

Is this love?

Love, this is.

Baby don't hurt me.

do you think it is rad to play among the ruins of a once-great literary culture that is no longer relevant and struggles for justification mcsweeney's

do you think it is wrong

or do you agree that it is okay

I'm going to be all kinds of obvious, but has anyone ever mentioned the reason the boys get out of Heaven/Hell so often is that they all have 9 lives, being cats.

Todd is an exception because Squirrels are entirely interchangeable. The same 10,000 squirrels have been reincarnating since the begginning of time and getting absolutely nowhere .

Squirrels are no longer relevant and struggle for justification.

Hahahaha, this phrase could be one of those things that gets funnier as it's used repeatedly.

Man I hope they're not eating chicken with a ding-a-ling again...

I think the dead cats are wrong. Reading McSweeney's would punish right now.
